Adult Education

Our academic upgrading (LBS) program will run from September 5th, 2023 until June 7th, 2024.  We look forward to helping you achieve your academic and employment goals this school year!

The LBS program, funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, serves learners with goals to successfully transition to employment, post-secondary, apprenticeship, secondary school, or increased independence for daily living. The program includes learners who may have a range of barriers to learning.

Instructors are able to assist MPLAR (Mature Prior Learning Achievement Recognition) eligible students in pursuing their goal of earning an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Instructors support students with MPLAR preparation for written assessments and gathering documentation of learning gained through life and/or work experience.

MPLAR or Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition for Mature Students (PPM 132) is a formal evaluation and credit granting process that recognizes and values the knowledge and skills that students have acquired in formal and informal ways outside of secondary school. It is the process that helps mature students gain recognition for learning outside of formal education settings. MPLAR focuses on what adults already know and what they can do. For example, have you lived on your own and managed your own money? Do you have children? Have you worked or volunteered and learned new skills? These experiences are just a handful of situations that can be evaluated to determine how that life experience may be attached to secondary school credits. Limestone can help you obtain recognition for these life and work experiences. For more information about  MPLAR Click Here
